The standard helps to define social responsibility and translate principles and issues into effective actions based on international norms of behaviour. The guidance provided in ISO 26000 is designed to be clear and instructive, even to non-specialists, as well as being objective and applicable to all types of organization, including big companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, public administrations, and governmental and non-governmental organizations. ISO 26000 is designed to assist organizations in contributing to sustainable development, encouraging them to go beyond basic legal compliance, and to promote a common understanding in the field of social responsibility, complementing other instruments and initiatives for social responsibility.
